The recent book by Gus Hansen (“Every Hand Revealed”) was an instant success because most poker players would like to know how to “play just like Gus.”
But reading Gus’s book raised many questions for me as I am certain it did for others. How often did Gus raise from the button? If I had asked myself that question before beginning the book I could easily have kept count – but I didn’t. Steven Roe has done the counting for us and answers that question on page 29. How did Gus’s action on the button differ from that in the blinds – another question I didn’t ask before reading – is answered by Roe (p. 22-23).
Roe has meticulously analyzed several aspects of Hansen’s play ranging from bluffing frequency to starting hands and position play. This analysis of hands adds materially to the discussion of hands by Hansen. I believe that any serious poker player will benefit from Roe’s analysis.
This is a small volume (94 pages, including a glossary of terms). However, I recommend it strongly for anyone who has read Hansen’s book and wants to follow up with an overview/summary of some of the more important statistics that can be derived from this detailed look at the play of one of the poker greats.
